The Amber Flag is a mental health initiative designed to help schools and clubs promote positive mental health within the educational system. The three main goals for the Amber Flag are : 1)To promote mental health and well-being for all. 2)Preventing mental health problems through increased awareness, social support, reducing risk factors such as racism, bullying and isolation. 3)Improve the quality of life for students with mental health problems by promoting recovery through awareness and education. In September 2019 a hardworking committee in Scoil Eoin Naofa got together to work towards achieving an Amber Flag for our school. The whole school got behind them and worked with them to promote Positive Mental Health in our school. We initially reviewed what our school was currently doing to promote positive mental health. We were pleased to find that a number of good initiatives were already in practice in the school. We then set ourselves a series of goals that we wanted to achieve over the year to improve the mental health of all in our school community. These goals included some of the following
The Pieta House Amber Flag Team complimented us on our application and even said that they found our application to be ‘an outstanding initiative promoting positive mental health’ They also said that they were ‘truly overwhelmed with the amazing initiatives being run in our school!’ We are immensely proud of our school’s achievement and we hope to build on our success next year! The Amber Flag Committee members 2019/2020 are Mrs Comerford, Mr Claffey, Mrs Heavey, Chloe Heaton, Tom Ennis, Hannah Martin, Ella McKnight, Harry Hughes, Emily Ennis Lennon, Elena Scott, Zoe Farrell, Ruby Phelan Our Amber Flag arrived two weeks ago!!! You may have seen it flying proudly outside our school in recent weeks. It has since retreated inside the school out of the harsh weather conditions and is now on display on our Amber flag notice board!
